Melting of Alum in a Test Tube by Infrared Heating

Friday August 8th, 2025 HEAT-TECH info

A halogen point heater was used to locally irradiate alum crystals in a test tube with infrared light.
As the heating progressed, the alum released its crystalline water with bubbling and gradually melted into a liquid.
This video visualizes the physical changes of alum during heating and the effect of localized infrared heating.
