Melting of Bismuth by Localized Infrared Heating

Saturday August 16th, 2025 HEAT-TECH info

Using a halogen point heater, we locally irradiated bismuth (Bi) with infrared light and observed the melting process.
Bismuth is a low-melting-point metal with a melting point of approximately 271°C. As heating progressed, its shiny metallic surface gradually softened and turned into liquid.
This video visualizes the phase change of metal caused by localized infrared heating.
