Thermal Shrinkage and Carbonization Behavior of EVA Foam under Localized Infrared Heating

Localized infrared heating was applied to EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) foam using a halogen point heater.

As heating progressed, white smoke was generated around the heated area, and deformation caused by the shrinkage of the foam cell structure began to occur. At higher temperatures, surface darkening and carbonization advanced, resulting in significant changes to the shape of the heated region.

While EVA foam offers excellent light weight and cushioning properties, exposure to high temperatures can cause shrinkage and degradation due to collapse of the internal cellular structure and thermal decomposition.
