Rapid Melting of a Silver Ingot by Localized Infrared Heating

Using a halogen point heater, we applied localized infrared irradiation to a silver ingot and observed its rapid melting.
The highly concentrated infrared beam quickly raised the temperature of the irradiated area, causing progressive melting.
This video visually illustrates the heating behavior resulting from the combination of silver’s high thermal conductivity and the high output and responsiveness of localized infrared heating.
The experiment highlights the potential of non-contact, high-precision heating and provides useful insights for research into heating applications of precious and high thermal conductivity materials.
